From Garden Tower to Landmark
An observation tower has crowned the island's Samuel Cocking Garden since 1951; the present 'Sea Candle' lighthouse-observatory replaced it in 2003.
A British Merchant's Legacy
The surrounding garden was first laid out in the Meiji era by British merchant Samuel Cocking, whose brick greenhouse foundations were rediscovered in 2003.
