Tottori Sand Dunes
The Tottori Sand Dunes are Japan's representative coastal dunes that extend along the coast of the Sea of Japan in Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture. In addition to being a tourist resource, it has been designated as a special protection area for San 'in Kaigan National Park, covering 2.4 km north and south and 16 km east and west. It was selected as one of Japan's top 100 geological sites in 1955 (Showa 30) and 2007 (Heisei 19). Along with Daisen, it is one of the symbols of Tottori Prefecture. It is one of the three major sand dunes in Japan, but there are various theories about the other two.
