Matsue Castle is an Edo period Japanese castle located in Tonomachi, Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. Chidori Castle is also known as Chidori Castle. The existing Tenshu is a national treasure, and the castle ruins are designated as a national historic site.

One of Japan's Original Keeps
Completed in 1611, Matsue Castle retains its original wooden keep — one of only twelve to survive — and was designated a National Treasure in 2015. Its dark plank walls earn it the name 'Black Castle.'
