Kurashiki Bikan District
The Kurashiki Bikan historical quarter is a township preservation and tourist area located in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture. This area was established based on the Beauty District Landscape Ordinance of Kurashiki City, and includes the entire area of Honmachi, the northern part of Chuo 1-chome (Maejinmachi, etc.), Higashimachi, Achi 2-chome, and Tsurugata 2-chome. The area of the aesthetic district in the broad sense is 21.0 hectares, of which the traditional building group preservation district (the first type of aesthetic district) is 15.0 hectares, and the traditional aesthetic preservation district (the second type of aesthetic district) is 6.0 hectares.

Storehouses Along a Willow Canal
In the Edo period Kurashiki was a shogunate-controlled hub for shipping rice and goods. Its preserved quarter of white-walled storehouses along a willow-lined canal recalls that prosperity.
