Iwaya Bridge spans the rugged western shore of Enoshima, carrying visitors from the wave-cut terrace of Chigogafuchi out toward the Iwaya sea caves. Exposed to the open water, the crossing opens onto a sweeping view of Sagami Bay — and, on clear days, Mount Fuji on the horizon — before the path slips into the lantern-lit caverns where the island’s worship of Benzaiten is said to have begun. At dusk the rocks fill with people watching the sun sink into the sea.

A Crossing Over the Tide
The bridge carries pilgrims and sightseers across Enoshima's rocky western tip to the Iwaya caves; before such walkways, visitors could reach the caves only at low tide.
