Sado's Ancient Echo of Kyoto's Kiyomizu
Seisui-ji Temple (Sado) is a historic shrine and temple. 4 traveler-shot videos let you feel the atmosphere and catch the highlights before you go.
Said to have been founded in 808, Seisui-ji is one of Sado Island's oldest temples. Its Guzeden hall — raised on a wooden stage said to be modeled after Kyoto's Kiyomizu-dera — stands quietly among cedar trees, with moss-covered stone steps and an aged gate telling of the centuries. The hushed, untouristed grounds are a hidden Sado treasure beloved by videographers.
History & Culture
Founded in the Daidō Era
Tradition holds the temple was founded in the early Heian period, modeled on Kyoto's Kiyomizu-dera, and it long served as a center of faith on the island.
A Stage Among the Cedars
The Guzeden hall rises on wooden pillars like Kyoto's famous stage. The interior is closed due to age, but the exterior can be viewed up close.
