Tsuruga Castle
Wakamatsu Castle is a Japanese castle located in Otemachi, Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture. It is also known as Tsuruga Castle, and is often called by this name in the locals. It is also called Aizuwakamatsu Castle because there is another castle with the same name. In addition, it is sometimes referred to as Kurokawa-jo Castle or Aizu-jo Castle in the literature. At present, it is designated as a national historic site as the Wakamatsu Castle Ruins (Wakamatsu Joseki/Wakamatsu Jooato).

A Fortress of Loyal Samurai
The castle of the Aizu domain, Tsuruga-jo withstood a month-long siege in the 1868 Boshin War. The keep, demolished in the Meiji era, was rebuilt in 1965 and re-roofed in red tile to match its original appearance.
