Horyu-ji in Ikaruga is a Buddhist temple founded in 607 whose halls and five-storey pagoda are among the oldest surviving wooden structures in the world. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it preserves the earliest architecture and treasures of Japanese Buddhism.
