History & Culture
A Temple for the Eyes
Founded in 703, Tsubosaka-dera (Minami Hokke-ji) has long been venerated for healing eye ailments — a faith immortalized in the play 'Tsubosaka Reigenki.'
Great Stone Buddhas
In gratitude for the temple's relief work in India, Indian artisans carved the giant stone Kannon and reclining Buddha that now stand among its hills.
