Togakushi Hōkōsha
Togakushi Hōkōsha is a historic shrine and temple. Travel through its seasons and highlights across 3 on-location videos before you visit.
One of Togakushi's five shrines, its hall stands atop more than 270 steep stone steps. Founded in 1058, it enshrines Ame-no-Uwaharu-no-Mikoto, revered for the arts, sewing, safe childbirth and warding off misfortune. The richly carved hall dates from the late Edo period.

Hokosha, the lowest of Togakushi's shrines, is reached by a long stone stairway and enshrines a deity of learning, the arts, and safe childbirth.
An Ornate Wooden Hall
Its current hall, built in 1861, is admired for its elaborate dragon and figure carvings in the late-Edo style.
