Sakurajima
Sakurajima is an active volcano located in the southern part of Kyushu, Japan, and the northern part of Kagoshima Bay (Kinko Bay) in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is about 12 kilometers east-west, about 10 kilometers north-south, about 55 kilometers around, and about 77 km2 in area. A scenic spot designated by Kagoshima Prefecture. It used to be an island as its name suggests, but due to the Taisho Taisho eruption in 1914, the Seto Strait, which once existed on the eastern side, was reclaimed and landlocked with the Osumi Peninsula. The Sakurajima volcano is located in the northern part of Kagoshima Bay near the southern edge of the Sagara caldera, which is about 20 kilometers in diameter. This caldera was born from a huge eruption 29,000 years ago, and about 3,000 years later, the Sakurajima volcano was born. It is a relatively new volcano in Japan. Sakurajima volcano has erupted frequently since the beginning of its history. There are many records of eruptions, and it is still active today.

A Volcano Joined to the Land
Sakurajima is one of Japan's most active volcanoes, rising across the bay from Kagoshima. A massive 1914 eruption poured out lava that joined the former island to the mainland.
