Four Gardens of Stillness
Keishun-in is a quiet sub-temple of Myoshin-ji, the great Rinzai Zen complex in western Kyoto. It is treasured for its four small gardens — each composed in a different mood — and an intimate tea house, offering a contemplative retreat away from the crowds.

A Retreat Within Myoshin-ji
Keishun-in was founded in 1598 and given its present name in 1632. As one of the many sub-temples within the vast Myoshin-ji precinct, it preserves the austere aesthetic of Rinzai Zen.
Gardens of Four Moods
Its four gardens — 'Purity,' 'Wabi,' 'Suchness,' and 'Contemplation' — are designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty, each framing a different state of mind.
