Hida Folk Village

Hida Folk Village is a museum (open-air museum) located in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. It preserves the heritage of Hida's traditional industries (such as Ichii ichido sword engraving, Hida Shunkyo painting, and plant dyeing), exhibits folk goods from the Hida region, and relocates and preserves folk houses from the Hida region, such as gassho-zukuri. In the 1930s, the Yanoharake house, a gassho-style private house submerged by a mother's coat dam, was relocated to Sankeien Garden in Yokohama City. In response to the relocation of valuable private houses one after another, the facility opened with the idea of preserving them locally. The guide often says "Hida Folk Village/Hida no Sato". To be precise, the Hida Folk Museum (present-day Folk Village), which opened in 1959, and the Hida Village, which opened in 1971, are called "Hida Folk Village."
