Matsushima, Miyagi
Matsushima
Matsushima is an archipelago of about 260 islands in and around Matsushima Bay in northeastern Miyagi Prefecture, as well as the Tajima Sea (the number of islands is described later in various theories). Alternatively, it refers to a scenic area that includes the Matsushima hills surrounding the bay. It is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan, with approximately 5.98 million visitors in 2019. It was once touted as "the elephant lagoon in the west of Matsushima in the east", along with the elephant lagoon in the landscaped area that also existed in the Tohoku region.
