Osaka Tenmangu
Osaka Tenmangu Shrine is a shrine located in Tenjinbashi, Kita Ward, Osaka City. Other names include Tenma Tenjin, Namihana Ganmyo, and Nakajima Tenman-gu Shrine. They are known as "Tenma no Tenjin-san" by Osaka citizens. Formerly a prefectural shrine, it is now a Beppyo-jinja Shrine of the Shinto shrine headquarters. The Tenjin Festival, held every year from July 24 to 25, is known as one of Japan's three major festivals and Osaka's three major summer festivals.

History & Culture
A Shrine to the God of Learning
Osaka Tenmangu enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the Heian-era scholar revered as Tenjin, deity of learning. It was founded in 949, after a grove of pines is said to have sprung up overnight on the site.
One of Japan's Great Festivals
Its Tenjin Matsuri, held each July since the 10th century, is counted among Japan's three greatest festivals, famous for its river procession of boats and fireworks.
