Japan's Powder Capital on Mt. Annupuri
Niseko United is a place worth a visit in Kutchan & Niseko, Hokkaido. 27 traveler-shot videos let you feel the atmosphere and catch the highlights before you go.
Niseko United links four resorts — Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and Annupuri — around a single volcano, Mt. Annupuri, with one all-mountain pass. Siberian weather systems crossing the Sea of Japan drop famously light, dry snow here almost daily through the heart of winter, which is why Niseko became the first Japanese resort to draw skiers from Australia, Asia and beyond in large numbers. The Hirafu base is the lively hub, with international restaurants and bars, while Mt. Yotei's cone rises across the valley on clear days. Tree runs, long groomers and a managed gate system for off-piste terrain make it a resort that rewards every level of skier and snowboarder. English-speaking ski schools, guides and rental shops are everywhere, and a free shuttle loops between the four bases.

History & Culture
First Lift on Annupuri
Skiing on Mt. Annupuri began with a single lift in the early 1960s, serving mostly Hokkaido locals and university ski clubs.
Discovered by Australia
Word of reliable powder and a short time difference spread through Australia in the early 2000s; by the end of the decade Niseko's winter economy ran largely in English.
A Global Resort Town
Luxury hotels and condominiums now line Hirafu, and the four resorts share a single lift pass and a backcountry gate system guided by the local avalanche advisory.
