Togakushi Okusha
The main shrine of Togakushi, at the foot of Mount Togakushi. It enshrines Ame-no-Tajikarao-no-Mikoto, revered for good fortune, the granting of wishes and bountiful harvests. Reached by a roughly 2 km walk from Chūsha through the Zuishinmon gate and cedar avenue, it is the heart of a Togakushi pilgrimage.
History & Culture
The God of Strength
Okusha, the inner sanctuary, enshrines Amenotajikarao, the god of power who flung open the heavenly rock cave — a legend that gives the mountain its name, Togakushi ('hidden door').
A Path of Ancient Cedars
The approach passes through an avenue of towering cryptomeria cedars, many around 400 years old, planted in the Edo period.
