Matsuyama Castle is a Japanese castle built in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture (formerly Iyo Province). Also known as Kinke-jo Castle or Katsuyama-jo Castle. Castles called "Matsuyama Castle" exist in various places such as Bicchu Matsuyama Castle (Takahashi City, Okayama Prefecture), which is one of the 12 remaining castles. The main castle is also sometimes called "Iyo Matsuyama Castle", but it is also located in Matsuyama City, so if it is simply "Matsuyama Castle", it generally refers to the main castle. It was built as the residence castle and government office of the lord of the Iyo Matsuyama Domain, which ruled the same area in the Edo period. Katsuyama, where Matsuyama Castle is built, is also called "Shiroyama", and the main part of the castle ruins is maintained as Shiroyama Park. In addition to being the largest castle in Shikoku, the building is well preserved.
